The 2,148-square-foot facility features an on-site pet crematory, rooms for pet owners to make final arrangements, an area in which to hold gatherings to remember the deceased pets and a lovely garden.

What should families do following the death of their pet?
Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie is a 24-hour operation. If a pet passes away, the family can call us at 504-482-PETS (7387). Families can either bring their pet to our facility or we can arrange to transport the pet from home or veterinarian. There is an additional cost to transport the pet from home to our facility.

A private cremation involves the cremation of one pet. A communal cremation involves the cremation of multiple, unrelated pets.

An ossuary is an underground repository for the placement of cremated remains.

Can pet owners witness the cremation of their pets?
Pet owners cannot witness the actual cremation. By appointment during regular business hours, however, pet owners can identify their pets prior to the cremation and can witness the placement of their pets into the cremation chamber.

How do pet owners know they are getting their pets’ cremated remains?
Each step of a private cremation includes an identification process called tagging and logging that ensures the identity of the pet.

How do customers get their deceased pets to the facility?
Customers may choose to transport their pets to the facility, or Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie will pick up the pets from their veterinary clinic. Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie will also pick up pets from their homes for an additional fee.

What kinds of animals can be cremated?
In general, small animals, such as cats, dogs, rabbits, snakes, birds, ferrets and lizards can be cremated. Our prices are based on the weight of the pet from zero to 200 pounds. In some cases we can handle larger animals. If your pet weighs over 200 pounds, please call Heaven’s Pets at 504-482-PETS (7387).

Pet grief counseling sessions are held on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at no cost. These sessions are held at Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
Those interested in a counseling session must call to make an appointment.

No, pet burials will not be allowed anywhere on the grounds of Metairie Cemetery. Cemetery regulations prohibit animals from being interred in any area dedicated for the interment of human remains. However, pet burials on Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie Cremation and Bereavement Center’s property are being considered.

She is responsible for the business, which includes the staff, the daily operations, the budget, etc. As part of the joint venture, Jerry Schoen of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home serves as Heaven’s Pets at Lake Lawn Metairie’s vice president and Corporate Accounting Manager Steve Mang serves as the company’s treasurer.
